We go to Aassi Ghat this morning to watch the sunrise, and then we stroll around Varanasi's Akhadas. Later, we continued on to Sarnath, which is a very significant Buddhist pilgrimage site and the location of Buddha's first sermon. Here, we visit the Dhamek Stupa, the Sarnath Archaeological Museum—famous for housing the four-headed lion that formerly perched atop the Ashoka Pillar—and the tranquil Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. Then we return to Varanasi, We are here visiting Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotilinga, Bharat Mata Temple, which exhibits a map of India prior to its partition. Sankat Mochan Mandir, a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Hanuman; Birla Mandir, also known as the Birla Temple because it was constructed by the Birla Group of Industries; Tulsi Manas Temple; and Kaal Bhairav Temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in Varanasi. Banaras Hindu University, formerly Central Hindu College, is a public central university. We adore taking rickshaw rides in the evening. We then have time to go shopping. Night stay at Varanasi.
